The Polish SA decided to investigate the cases of disclosure of data that led to the tragedy

Two high-profile cases in which the disclosure of information on persons led to suicides require a close analysis," said Mirosław Wróblewski, President of the Personal Data Protection Office.

Making too much information public can have tragic consequences. In one of the high-profile cases, the media revealed a range of information that made it possible to identify a child who had been harmed by a pedophile. After that, the boy took his own life.

The President of the Personal Data Protection Office decided to investigate the matter. He asked the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Szczecin for information on the findings made by it as part of the proceedings undertaken in the case of the boy's suicide.

On the other hand, the President of the Personal Data Protection Office sent a letter to one of the radio stations, in which he asked inter alia for information about the solutions used by the station to ensure the security of the processed data and compliance of the processing with the requirements of the GDPR. In that letter, the President of the Personal Data Protection Office also asked for information on a possible internal radio investigation related to the publication of material in which too many details were revealed.

The President of the Personal Data Protection Office also decided to investigate another case in which the data of a priest was disclosed on social media in connection with his detention for an alleged indecent act. The person committed suicide, which may have been related to his identification.

In this case, the President of the Personal Data Protection Office asked the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Szczecin to provide information on the findings made in order to consider taking action by the supervisory authority in connection with the protection of personal data.
