Greater presence of the Personal Data Protection Office on social media

Up-to-date information, education in the field of personal data protection, raising awareness of the activities and role of the President of the Personal Data Protection Office – these are the main goals of the Office’s increasing activity on social media.

Since 1 March, the Personal Data Protection Office has also been available on LinkedIn and Mastodon. The goal of being more active on social media is to reach a larger and more diverse audience.

In addition to the website of the Personal Data Protection Office, which is the main source of information about the activities of the supervisory authority, social media profiles are being developed. For some time now, the Personal Data Protection Office has had its own profile on the X platform (formerly Twitter), from which recipients can learn about the current activities of the President of the Personal Data Protection Office, the most important events or their announcements.

Recently, the Personal Data Protection Office’s YouTube channel has been reactivated, which is an additional source of knowledge. It has been supplemented with past events so that the recipients of this medium can get acquainted with conferences or webinars organised by the Personal Data Protection Office. It will be updated on an ongoing basis with further film materials.

- Mastodon was chosen by the Personal Data Protection Office, because it is a decentralised service – it consists of a network of servers called instances. Each user can set up his/her own instance and join an existing server. There are no advertisement or algorithms to rank the content, and users' posts are displayed in chronological order. On LinkedIn, on the other hand, it is planned to publish longer and more in-depth materials aimed primarily at business," said Mirosław Wróblewski, President of the Personal Data Protection Office.

The presence of the Personal Data Protection Office on other platforms – LinkedIn and Mastodon – is to strengthen the Office's communication and further expand public awareness of personal data protection and the role of the supervisory authority. This is also in line with the task incumbent on the President of the Personal Data Protection Office, which is to educate on the protection of personal data. These platforms are also intended to ensure that information about the planned events of the Personal Data Protection Office reaches as many people as possible.
