A GDPR guide for the sports industry will be created

About the creation of the GDPR guide dedicated to the sports industry, the President of the Personal Data Protection Office, Mirosław Wróblewski, along with his associates, spoke with the Director of the Sports Institute, Ph. D. Konrad Witek, and representatives of the Institute's members.

"I'm glad that a guide to the protection of personal data in sports is being created. It is a response to the demand of a market saturated with data, some of which are of a special nature. The Personal Data Protection Office is eager to support such initiatives and provide substantive support. I hope that this is a step towards the formation of a Code of Conduct on data protection for the sports industry, regulating in detail the topic of personal data in sports," - said Mirosław Wróblewski, President of the Personal Data Protection Office.

The discussion included: data security in sports and support for athletes, sports personnel and organizations or unions. The industry's problem is not only the relatively low awareness of data protection regulations, but also the specific regulations for different sports. Personal data in sports is also transferred between international sports associations and therefore to third countries. Problems can arise in the processing of data on athletes' health, performance or Paralympic sports.

These issues should just be regulated by a Code of Conduct for the sports industry.

Participants of the meeting will continue to cooperate, including in educational activities, such as conferences organized by the Sports Institute and the Personal Data Protection Office.
