AI's impact on fundamental rights must be regulated – the President of the Personal Data Protection Office at IAPP conference

The President of the Personal Data Protection Office, Miroslaw Wroblewski, took part in an event organised by the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) entitled “Women's Voices in AI: Perspectives and Regulatory Challenges for 2025.” The meeting was organised on the occasion of the International Women's Day and the Polish Presidency of the Council of the EU.

During the conference, the President of the Personal Data Protection Office stressed the importance of considering personal data protection in the context of rapidly developing artificial intelligence (AI). In his speech, he pointed out that AI technologies can affect people's rights and freedoms, so it is crucial to ensure adequate regulation.

Maria Owczarek, Director of the International Cooperation Department of the Personal Data Protection Office also spoke at the panel discussion. She referred to the European Data Protection Board Opinion 28/2024 on the processing of personal data in the context of AI, and stressed the need to avoid prohibited practices related to artificial intelligence technologies.

The year 2025 promises to be a breakthrough year for artificial intelligence. The president of the Personal Data Protection Office noted the need for further analysis of the regulatory challenges to data protection that may arise from the development of new AI models.
